The Case for a Student Newspaper

The Campus Update’s mission is to deliver accurate, relevant, and uncensored news in regards to Principia Upper School, its affairs, and events involving the school and its campus. The Campus Update promises independent journalism, free from the censorship or oversight of school administration.

We feel that Principia News Nation and similar school-affiliated media are focused on entertainment instead of accurate reporting and investigative journalism. We’re here to change that.

Similarly, newsletters from the administration fail to take into account student voices and the effects of school policy, which we believe to be central to credible reporting. Part of having a strong, educated, and diverse student body is having the means to express different viewpoints and report on the student and teacher experience at Principia.

In the 21st Century, our mediums for consuming news and information have vastly changed. The Campus Update will be available in print format as well as online, and will maintain social media channels for further outreach in the student community.
